BlueLabel leverages innovation through digital solutions that create a sustainable impact on the living environment.
Heavy downpours can cause unexpected surface (pluvial) flooding when urban drainage and rivers systems can no longer cope with extreme water volumes. This is why our approach starts with creating awareness of potential hazards and risks as a result of heavy rainfall. In addition, river (fluvial) flooding and coastal flooding (storm surges), or any combination of these, can be considered where relevant depending on the local water system.
We do this by digitally analysing extreme rainfall events and calculating the risk of floods – both frequency and significance – using hydrodynamic models. Our intention is to make people aware of their exposure and give them opportunity to mitigate it. To achieve this, we have harnessed smart technologies to make complex data visual, and thereby easy to understand and apply.
First BlueLabel client: Municipality of Rotterdam
As a city in the Dutch Delta, Rotterdam is a front runner and worldwide leader in the area of water management and has an ambitious strategy for city resilience. - BlueLabel translates the risk of flooding into an easily understandable ranking using a context labelling system. This is depicted visually for each property, street and infrastructure object – allowing people to understand risk at a glance.
- BlueLabel is visual and easy-to-understand, so it is ideally suited for risk dialogues and communication between stakeholders and the broader public.
- BlueLabel depicts, at street and building level, the risks for flooding – allowingfor effective planning of large and small-scale interventions.
- At a macro scale, an overall idea of risk can be obtained for municipalities by aggregating all properties within a given context or area.
- In this way, BlueLabel provides a uniform, benchmarkable language of risk exposure for cities, companies and individuals.

BlueLabel also has the potential to show the context of your business holistically, and to map out supply chain risks.

Currently, BlueLabel is available to you, as a private citizen, through your municipality if it is subscribed to BlueLabel. Our intention is to offer BlueLabel directly to consumers at a later stage. For now, you can provide updated information related to you plot or neighbourhood. This allows us to provide a more efficient and effective service.
